California Motorcycle Permits | CA Tips & Tricks

Motorcycle Permit Check List, California State, CA

To snatch a California motorcycle permit you must do the following:

  1. Be 15½ years old.
  2. Complete a Motorcycle License or Drivers License or Identification Card Application form (DL 44). The California DMV does not provide this form online because the form requires original signatures and the form has a unique barcode the DMV must input into its computer system.  To get the Motorcycle License DL 44 form by mail, call the DMV’s automated phone service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-800-777-0133.
  3. If you are less than 18 years old, include your parents’ or guardians’ signatures on the Motorcycle License DL 44.
  4. Give your social security number.
  5. Give your official full name.
  6. Provide an acceptable birth date and document proof of legal residence.
  7. Present proof of driver education/driver training completion if you are less than 18 years old.
  8. Pay the motorcycle fee.
  9. Study for the motorcycle written test.

Motorcycle Permit Restrictions for California

Once you obtain your California motorcycle permit you need to know the restrictions before you ride off into the sunset only to get some nasty fines from the police.  Please refer to the following CA motorcycle permit restrictions:

  1. Do not transport passengers on your motorcycle until you pass the road test and receive your CA motorcycle license.
  2. Never ride the motorcycle on the highway or the freeway.
  3. Find roads with less traffic such as side streets, private roadways, and parking lots to practice riding your motorcycle.
  4. Ride you motorcycle during the day, night driving is strictly forbidden.
